Llanelian Village Church, next door to the White Lion Inn, is taking part in the CADW sponsored Heritage Tourism Project which aims to promote Heritage tourism in Wales. As part of this, CADW have organised an Open Doors project this September around Wales.
Llanelian church is testament to the long and interesting history of this small settlement on the outskirts of Colwyn Bay. Recent research has dated the remains of the Rood Screen to around 1500 AD, by which time the church was already several hundred years old.
A 12th century font and paintings believed to be 13th century still remain. Tours of the church sketch the history of this ancient building together with the White Lion Public House next door which dates from the 8th Century.
The tours are on Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September between 10.00am and 4pm. The White Lion will also be open during these times to visit and you may wish to partake of some refreshment following your journey back through 1000 years.
