VE Day 75th Anniversary Tea Party

Whilst the village couldn’t celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day together with a traditional village tea party, we decided the family would do their bit and hold our personal party. So here we are below enjoying our sandwiches and cake. Note the hand sanitizer close to hand. We hope you all had an enjoyable day in your personal lockdowns.

Coronavirus Update VE Day 75th Anniversary

Unfortunately we aren’t able to be open today to celebrate with our customers the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. We can however get into the spirit of the Anniversary by decorating the White Lion as we would have done in normal circumstances. We hope you all have an excellent day’s celebration and look forward, hopefully in the not too distant future, to welcoming you all back inside our Pub. Kind regards to you all, Simon and Nina.

Coronavirus Update 1st April

Just to let you all know that we are still unable to do a takeaway service at the moment due to issues of social distancing and also social responsibility.  It is very upsetting to see the pub empty but it is for everyone’s safety.  We are endeavouring to work on a reopening program for some time in the future when the Government will safely allow us to do so.  Until then we have put our names down on the Volunteers List and we will keep you informed of how Mr Noel is doing and what he is up to.  Mr Noel is striking his pose for the camera today and missing you all. Stay Safe everyone.

Coronavirus Update 27th March

Many of you have been asking why we are not currently offering a Takeaway/Delivery service.  The simple answer is social distancing.  In order to run the service we need at least five people which would have to include staff.  The staff would have to be socially distancing whilst they are here, which is virtually impossible in a kitchen, hence such as McDonalds and Subway having to close.  Also some of our critical staff live with partners who are in a risk category;  NHS employees and people in the latter stages of pregnancy.  Our son Jack has been sent home from his work at Toyota, Deeside, where he has been in a factory full of people.  We feel he should be kept away from people for a least 8 days from his lay-off as we don’t want to risk spreading the virus in the village.

This week we have also been very busy ensuring that our staff & suppliers are paid and making plans to ensure we are here for our customers after all this is over.

We are still exploring ways to offer a food service of some sort, maybe as a shop or with frozen meals, in co-operation with some of our suppliers.  Please be patient with us, we have your interests at heart in what we are trying to do but it all takes time and your safety is paramount to us.  We wish to thank the people who have volunteered to help us to set up whatever we can in the near future.

Coronavirus Update 23rd March

Thank you everyone for their patience with our Takeaway/Home delivery service yesterday. It has been quite an operation to convert from a Pub to a Takeaway operation overnight and ensuring that we maintain the highest levels of Food Hygiene and all aspects of safety measures connected with Coronavirus.
Following yesterday’s announcement by the Prime Minister I think we will have to shut down our Home-delivery service but may be able to continue as a Takeaway. We are consulting the Council today as to how they would like us to procede and will update you as soon as we have news, watch our Website or Facebook page.
If anyone is desperate please give us a ring this afternoon as we do have some supplies, but for now we are not expecting to operate today, Monday.

Conoravirus Update 21st March

Following yesterday’s announcement from the Prime Minister the White Lion is now closed.
We are allowed to continue our CONORAVIRUS HOME DELIVERY MEAL SERVICE plus a Takeaway service for people who are able to collect. This we will do for as long as we are able.
For Mother’s Day we are doing a special menu, see below, available from 12noon until 6pm.
Our daily service will be with a limited menu, see link or previous post. This will be available at lunchtimes and from 6.00-8.30pm in the evening and payment is ideally to be by credit/debit card on ordering to reduce human contact. We are now also introducing a payment box for people who wish to pay by cash. We are able to deliver bottled drinks and are currently investigating being able to also deliver draught beers, watch for future updates.
To order please ring 01492 515807.
We wish all our customers best wishes during this difficult time and look forward to welcoming you back to the pub when this is all over.

White Lion wins Pub of the Year North Wales

The White Lion was the winner of Pub of the Year, North Wales, at the Welsh Hospitality Awards 2019 held in Cardiff last night. The competition was fierce and Simon and Nina are absolutely delighted for everyone who works at the White Lion. This follows the award earlier this year of North Wales Gastro Pub of the Year at the Welsh Food Awards 2019 and is a great fillip for a small village, independent, local pub.

White Lion a finalist in the Welsh Hospitality Awards

We are delighted to have been selected as a finalist for the Welsh Hospitality awards taking place at the Mercure Hotel, Cardiff at the end of November. Following last year’s award of the North Wales Gastro Pub of the Year together with our Recommendation in the Good Pub Guide, this new nomination again helps to recognize all the hard work put in by our staff over the year.
